Your Sustainable Wedding

Sustainability is on everyone’s mind.  Whether you’re thinking about how your travel will impact the environment or considering how to recycle your take-out or take-away containers, the idea of sustainability has shifted from fantasy to reality.  A worldwide reality!

Viewing weddings from a different angle will uncover exciting opportunities to embrace sustainability! Whether you choose a venue that prioritizes eco-friendly practices, send seeded invitations that can bloom when planted, or opt for digital invites, each decision to incorporate sustainability makes a difference. Additionally, the availability of delicious food options and fabulous décor can help make your celebration greener!

As you plan your menu, discuss seasonal ingredients and food choices with your caterer.   Selecting local ingredients can enhance fresh flavors and help minimize your impact on the climate. Furthermore, you might discover some splendid farm-to-table options that will surprise and delight you!

You can maintain your floral vision while minimizing environmental impact.  Talk with your floral designer about creating stunning arrangements that showcase large blooms, like hydrangeas, creating an impact with just a few flowers.  If your dream is floral opulence, give your flowers a second life.  There are organizations dedicated to repurposing event flowers. They take your beautiful arrangements and transform them into beautiful floral arrangements that are donated to hospitals and senior living facilities.  Some of these organizations may charge a fee that includes floral pickup.  You may be able to consider this fee as a charitable donation [check with your tax advisor].

I shared two areas where you can provide a strong sustainability focus for your wedding, and there are many more.   Regardless of how big or small your sustainability efforts are, they can significantly reduce your wedding’s environmental impact!
